Moraine Park Technical College
Surgical technologists are allied health professionals who prepare operating rooms, arrange equipment and assist doctors during surgeries. Moraine Park Surgical Technology students learn the theory and application of sterile and aseptic technique, human anatomy, surgical procedures, and implementation of tools and technologies to facilitate a physician s performance of invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures. Students gain hands-on experience through two semesters of clinical work, and are required to complete a minimum of 120 clinical cases to graduate. Surgical technology students learn the basic principles and best practices of working in the peri-operative environment, how to maintain a safe and sterile surgical environment, how to provide a safe and supportive environment for the patient, how to prep patients, operating rooms and surgical teams for the preoperative phase, and how to perform intraoperative and postoperative case management. Program applications are accepted until a week prior to the start of each semester. There are some exceptions for programs or certificates that begin mid-semester. Some high-demand/limited-enrollment programs reach capacity based on the number of students who complete admission. Applicants are accepted into limited-enrollment programs on a first-come, first-served basis and are admitted from program waitlists as space becomes available.
Advisory board committee members from area businesses provide guidance and direction on curriculum and program outcomes.
Moraine Park offers Employment Services and Career Services to students.
Tutoring is available online and face to face for our students.

Students will work with their advisor for details. Required books and materials are an additional cost. New, used, and rental books may be an option.
